What makes us feel like we belong to Pécs or Baranya? What comes to mind for those living far away when they think about this city at the foot of the Mecsek and Hungary's southernmost county? The Spirit of Place - Genius Loci permanent exhibition at the Janus Pannonius Museum SZ12 seeks to answer these questions.

The exhibition has created a space that expresses our love, respect, and connection to our home. It is the only exhibition in Baranya that presents our local stories and traditions from prehistoric times to the present day in an innovative way.

Each room represents geographical locations where far-reaching events took place. Through the museum's archaeological, local historical, and ethnographic collections, visitors are guided by those who experienced or envisioned these events - our geniuses. We hope their spirit and intellectual legacy will deepen the sense of belonging to Pécs and Baranya, and the experience of this area's cultural diversity.
