Opening hours:
Tuesday-Sunday 10 a.m - 18 p.m.
Closed on Mondays
The exhibition of sculptor Amerigo Tot, displayed on the ground floor of the refurbished building of 4 Káptalan St. re-opened in autumn 2011. The sculptures featured were donated to Pécs by the artist himself.
Amerigo Tot (Imre Tóth) was born in Fehérvárcsurgó on 27 September 1909 and died in Rome on 13 December 1984. According to his will he was buried in Hungary.
He lived and worked in Italy from 1937, and his life was just as varied and colourful as his work. His sculptures well demonstrate the diversity of styles and trends that had their influence on his art, from Renaissance through modern constructivist traditions and surrealism to the 60s fashionable pop art.
The exhibition presents such important works as the relief „Babtism” inspired by Italian Renaissance, the series of „progenitrix” figures symbolizing fertility entitled „Pebble Woman” or the replica of the monumental work „Historical Ellipse” originally created for the Chapel of Our Lady of Hungary at St. Peters Basilica, Vatican.
